On the night of January 31, 2025, Wings Advocacy faced a heartbreaking setback when $10,000 worth of essential household supplies from our storage facility were stolen. These supplies were destined for Welcome Home Baskets, a vital program that bridges the gap between homelessness and long-term stability for newly housed individuals and families in Santa Cruz County. Items stolen included mattresses, bedding, and basic household necessities—life-changing resources for families who are taking their first steps toward a stable, independent future.

Why Wings Advocacy’s Work Matters
For people transitioning out of homelessness, settling into new housing isn’t as simple as receiving keys to a door. Without critical household supplies, an empty apartment can feel less like a home and more like a reminder of uncertainty and hardship. Wings Advocacy steps in here, uniquely providing Welcome Home Baskets filled with essentials like beds, kitchenware, and personal care items. These carefully curated items help transform barren spaces into warm, livable homes.
The program is one-of-a-kind in Santa Cruz County—no other organization or agency addresses this critical need. Government housing programs and local nonprofit organizations consistently rely on Wings Advocacy to ensure that those leaving homelessness receive the tools they need for a stable future. The theft has left five families, who were poised to move into permanent housing, without essential supplies, delaying their long-awaited transition to stability.
Join Us to Help Rebuild What Was Lost
Wings Advocacy has been a beacon of hope since its founding in 2015, assisting over 1,000 individuals and families along their path to stability and dignity. The theft represents more than just a financial blow; it’s a disruption to vulnerable families whose lives are hanging in the balance. But together, as a community, we have the power to move beyond this setback.
We’ve launched a dedicated Fundraiser to replenish the stolen supplies and ensure those affected families can still receive the support they need. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly helps our neighbors take the next step toward creating a stable and hopeful future.
